our Charity BBQ'S on Thursday, June 13, 2013

12:00pm-1:30pm at your local Equipment World location

Equipment World Inc. employees grilled up some fun to support local Children's Charities this year!

Thank You to all our customers, friends and family who supported our Annual Charity BBQ's at each Equipment World Location.  We enjoyed Sunshine all across Northern Ontario on Thursday which helped in our fundraising efforts.  With Equipment World donating additional expenses, we raised approx. $6,000 in total to help Children's Charities in Northern Ontario!  CONGRATULATION to everyone who helped support our efforts.

Photos of each event are posted below, click to view our collages.

On Thursday, June 13th Equipment World will host their annual charity BBQ fundraiser.  Each Equipment World location will host a BBQ to support a charity chosen by their employees in Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and Thunder Bay.  The challenge is to see which location can raise the most funds (just a friendly competition among colleagues) and ultimately support some important charities.

The charities of choice for each location were: Algoma Family Services Foundation for Sault Ste. Marie, the Pediatrics Unit at Health Sciences North in conjunction with KICX for Kids in Sudbury and The Children's WIsh Foundation for Thunder Bay.

Algoma Family Services Foundation

From 12:00pm-1:30pm on Thursday, June 13th at 235 Drive-In Road, in Sault Ste. Marie the Equipment World
crew will be raising funds at their BBQ to support the Algoma Family Services Foundation.

Established in 1994, Algoma Family Services (AFS) Foundation is the only Foundation in the Algoma District dedicated to supporting the mission of Algoma Family Services by raising funds to support children and youth with mental health problems and their families.

The Foundation provides meaningful opportunities for the community to help resource mental health programs and services for children and youth in the Algoma District which would otherwise not be available through provincial funding.

AFS Foundation provides support for children and youth who may be experiencing depression, anxiety, anger, physical aggressiveness to others, school difficulties, witnessing violence at home, separation and divorce, physical abuse, death of a parent, parent/teen conflict and attachment difficulties.

Research has proven that early detection and treatment is critical to providing hopeful and healthy futures for our community’s children.

Kicx for Kids / HSN NICU

From 12:00pm-1:30pm on Thursday, June 13th at 1130 Lorne Street, the Equipment World crew will be raising funds at their BBQ to support Health Sciences North / KICKX for Kids.

In December 2011 KICX 91.7 FM launched a five year $250,000 fundraising campaign to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)/Pediatrics Unit at Health Sciences North. The KICX for Kids Campaign is raising money for the purchase of three new state of the art CLiO2 Ventilators for the NICU.This highly specialized machine helps children born prematurely breathe by moving air in and out of their lungs when they are unable to breathe on their own.

Families with infants in the NICU face an incredible amount of emotional stress. Health Sciences North, with the help of KICX for Kids  can help relieve that stress by providing their babies with the best care available, using the most modern technology and equipment. A ventilator is a machine that controls the amount of air and oxygen a baby receives, by controlling the number of breaths per minute.

In a premature baby, the part of the brain and spinal cord that controls breathing is not yet mature enough to
remind the baby to breathe nonstop. This causes bursts of breath followed by periods of shallow breathing, or
even stopped breathing, which is referred to as apnea of prematurity. Much of the equipment in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Health Sciences North has to do with ventilation. The baby may require the help of a
machine to breathe or have the machine completely take over the function of breathing.

The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada

From 12:00pm-1:30pm on Thursday, June 13th at 988 Alloy Drive, the Equipment World crew will be raising funds at their BBQ to support Children’s Wish.  Company president, Lyle Knudsen is a member
of the Golf event fundraiser Committee for the local chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada and has requested extra support from his Thunder Bay team.

Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.  Since 1984, The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to over 19,000 children and their families.  This year, Children’s Wish expects to grant 1,000 new wishes and, with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day.  Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of a particular child and family.

For a child whose wish is about to be granted, the pain and discomfort of the illness, and often harsh treatment regimes, somehow becomes more bearable.  For many, the excitement of planning and anticipating their dream has a dramatic effect on their healing.  These courageous youngsters often experience a renewed sense of energy and hope as they see a different kind of light at the end of the tunnel.

Andrew Coffey, Golf Committee chair says “we will be hosting our 22nd Annual Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada Golf Tournament on Thursday, September 5th, 2013 at Whitewater Golf Club.  We invite interested sponsors and golfers to support this event.  On behalf of our special children, their families and those who work
at the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, thank you for your consideration and support.”
